Mr Steve Tully has been Victoria's Electoral Commissioner since January 2005.
Commencing his career in the South Australian Premier's Department in 1972, Mr Tully went on to hold positions in the South Australian Department of Agriculture, the Public Service Board, the Department for Local Government and the Arts, as well as in the Mental Health Service of South Australia as the Chief Operating Officer.
In his previous position as South Australia's Electoral Commissioner from 1997, and SA Deputy Commissioner from 1996, Mr Tully was responsible for overseeing two State elections as well as numerous local council elections and non-government elections.
Since joining the VEC, Mr Tully has overseen the 2006 State election and the 2008 local government elections, when elections for all 79 Victorian councils were conducted simultaneously for the the first time.
During his time in the South Australian and Victorian Commissions, Mr Tully has witnessed significant automation of electoral processes and other improvements in the Australian electoral industry. Many of these improvements have been led by the VEC, in support of its challenge to stimulate leading thinking and deliver excellence in all electoral endeavours.
