Only Australian citizens and qualified British subjects* are eligible to enrol and vote in Federal and State elections, although non-Australian citizens who live and pay rates in a municipality may enrol and vote in their local council elections.
Once you become an Australian citizen you will be able to have a say in who will represent you at the Federal and State levels of government.
To be able to vote you must enrol by completing an enrolment form. Often the Australian Electoral Commission (external link) will assist you with this at your citizenship ceremony.

*A qualified British subject for the electoral roll in Victoria is one who was on an Australian electoral roll between 26 October 1983 and 26 January 1984.
