VEC Enrolment Helper

Enrolment Helper

Enrolment and voting are compulsory

If you are eligible, you are required to enrol and vote in federal, state and local government elections and you may be fined if you do not.

You are eligible to enrol and vote if you:

  • have lived at an address which is your principal place of residence for at least one month; and
  • are an Australian citizen, or a British subject who was enrolled on 25 January 1984 (and – for Victorian elections only – if you were a British subject enrolled between 26 October 1983 and 25 January 1984 inclusive); and
  • are 18 years or older (you can enrol when you are 17 years of age, but cannot vote until you are 18).

You must update your enrolment every time you move home or if you change your name.

The next pages will determine if you are eligible to enrol and vote in Victoria. If you are eligible, you can use this enrolment helper to complete the relevant sections of the enrolment form.

If you have already enrolled to vote in Victoria, you can also use this enrolment helper to change your name and/or address.

Once you have worked through this enrolment helper, you will need to print the form, sign it and have it witnessed. Then simply send it to the Victorian Electoral Commission by fax or reply paid post.

To complete this form you will need:

  • a printer (if you do not have a printer, you can save the completed form, then email it to the VEC for printing and mailing to you for signature);
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7 or above;
  • Internet Explorer 7 or above, or Firefox internet browser 3 or above; with
  • JavaScript enabled.

If you are enrolling under a special enrolment category (homeless, silent, overseas or general postal voter) you cannot use the enrolment helper. You will need to download the relevant form.
