Elections that require you to cast your vote in person are called attendance elections. For these elections, most people vote at voting centres on election day. All voting centres are open from 8:00am until 6:00pm and their locations are advertised well in advance. These details will also be available on this website.
You can vote in the two weeks before election day by attending an early voting centre. Early voting centres are typically open during business hours and these hours are often extended in the days leading up to election day. The location and opening hours of every early voting centre will be available on this website during the election.
When you attend an early voting centre your name is marked off the electoral roll, you fill in your ballot papers and deposit them in a ballot box just as you would on election day.
If you can't attend a voting centre on election day, or an early voting centre prior to election day, you can apply for a postal vote. Applications will be available on this website and at post offices closer to election day.
If you have permanent circumstances which make it difficult for you to attend a voting centre, you can apply to register as a general postal voter. More details about becoming a general postal voter are available on our postal voting page.
